The Gem of the West Coast... constructed during Sarasota’s vibrant 1920s land boom, the Mira Mar Hotel quickly rose as a distinguished landmark of Mediterranean Revival architecture. Conceived by Chicago industrialist Andrew McAnsh, the development included the luxurious hotel, connected apartments and an adjacent auditorium — all completed with remarkable speed. Groundbreak began on October 6, 1922 and within just 60 days, the apartment buildings were finished, followed shortly by the hotel and auditorium. The Sarasota County Times heralded the project as “the dawn of a new era in the city’s history of development.”
In 2023, Seaward Development acquired the historic Mira Mar and joined a coalition of passionate Sarasota residents dedicated to preserving its iconic façade and restoring the vintage structure. Through adaptive reuse, two new residential towers will rise behind the original apartments, honoring the building’s century-old charm while embracing modern luxury.
The revitalized Mira Mar will once again serve as a cultural and social centerpiece in Sarasota, featuring ground-floor retail and dining, office space and an elegant residential enclave centered around a sweeping central green courtyard.
