One of our favorite events has returned to the calendar! This weekend, November 12 - 14, marks the return of MOD Weekend, the popular annual event now orchestrated by Architecture Sarasota. MOD Weekend has been a recurring celebration for the past 8 years, highlighting the distinctive Sarasota School of Architecture and showcasing 'the regional modernism that defines Sarasota's design legacy with a weekend of tours, lectures, and events.
This year's MOD Weekend celebrates Philip Hanson Hiss, a patriarch of Sarasota modern design who was also noted for his civic engagement. Events throughout MOD Weekend are ticketed and include a Saturday symposium on the Hiss legacy and development of Lido Shores, self-guided walking tours of 'Tropical Modernism,' and social occasions including a Friday evening cocktail reception at the Hiss Studio and neighboring Paul Rudolph Umbrella House and a black-tie dinner at the bayfront College Hall mansion.
